My quest to find a healer in Nepal led me to an unexpected route: Nundhaki, a village nestled amidst lush hills, where herbal medicine is not the domain of one, but a shared legacy. The Limbu people who live here, have a deep connection to nature and have woven the knowledge of medicinal plants into the very fabric of their lives.
Nundhaki is a place with collective wisdom. Faces engraved with kindness and a twinkle of herbal knowledge. The villagers readily shared their understanding of local medicinal knowledge.
My journey then led me to Kewal Bahadur Limbu. A farmer with a thriving livestock farm. Alongside his son, Millon, their hands – skilled and practiced – sorted harvested herbs from the jungle or forest.
Like other villagers, the Kewal Bahadur Limbu’ family is well-sustained. Despite the absence of nearby clinics, the villagers in Nundhaki turn to herbal remedies not out of desperation, but with deep-rooted belief in their effectiveness. These plants, passed down through generations, hold a sacred place in their traditional healthcare.
